Research Overview

People with early-onset Alzheimer's disease are at an increased risk of developing seizures and epilepsy. Presenilin 2 is one of three deterministic risk genes for early-onset Alzheimer's disease, and around 1/3 of patients with variants in Presenilin 2 develop seizures. My research seeks to determine how loss of normal Presenilin 2 function contributes to increased seizure susceptibility by using a mouse model lacking Presenilin 2.
